Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy, the use of water in the treatment of disease, has been used for centuries in many traditions to heal the body, rid the body of stress and rejuvenate. Hydrotherapy is used to tone the body, relieve pain, and stimulate digestion, circulation and the immune system. Skin and muscles benefit from hydrotherapy and treatments also assist the function of the lungs, heart, stomach and endocrine system by stimulating nerve reflexes on the spinal cord and increasing circulation to these organs.

How does it work?

With Dr. Varela, this ancient therapeutic art has been adapted to speed the healing of both acute and chronic diseases. By using hot and cold water applications, combined with massage and muscle stimulation, the circulation of blood and lymph is regulated and improved. By enhancing the blood and lymphatic circulation through the major organs of the body, oxygen and nutrient delivery to the tissues is increased and metabolic wastes and environmental and drug toxins that may have accumulated in the body are removed.

Hydrotherapy techniques can be used to stimulate the immune response in acute illness such as colds and bronchitis, as well as assist in the treatment of chronic viral infections and other stubborn illnesses. It is frequently recommended to assist in the long-term detoxification process of environmental illness and auto-immune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Constitutional hydrotherapy is the most frequently used treatment with the application of alternating hot and cold towels to the front and back of the body, combined with electrical muscle stimulation to massage the muscles and stimulate the lymphatics. These treatments may be combined with oils and botanicals to address inflammation or congestion.

A consultation is required for colon hydrotherapy.

Hydrotherapy, bodywork, steam and sauna therapies are often combined in complete natural medicine programs along with diet, exercise, biopuncture, homeopathy, botanical medicine and nutritional supplements. A comprehensive program carefully designed to address each patient’s condition and needs may include many treatments throughout the course of several days to several months.

Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as colonics and colonic irrigation is an extended and more enhanced form of an enema. The objective of colon hydrotherapy is to balance and cleanse the colon and involves the infusion of water in to the colon using a medically approved class II colon hydrotherapy device with a sanitary, disposable speculum in to the rectum. This therapy improves the muscle tone of the colon and enhances the peristaltic action and increases the absorption of nutrients from the cecum and ascending colon while minimizing the absorption of toxic waste material.

Colon hydrotherapy:
  1. Hydrates the waste and the body. Hydrated bodily fluids are able to carry nutrients and waste more effectively. These fluids include lymph, blood, mucus, intercellular fluid and extra cellular fluid.
  2. Softens and loosens waste. It is easier for the bowel to evacuate softened, hydrated waste than a hard, dehydrated mass.
  3. Water enters the bowel, softening and loosening waste; this creates the reflex for evacuation. The colon evacuates through normal peristalsis. this may be repeated several times during a session, thereby exercising the muscles which make up the colon.

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine without the use of drugs. It is estimated that there are many hundreds of colon hydrotherapists in the United States assisting hundreds of thousands of clients to enjoy the benefits of colon hydrotherapy. Many of these clients claim that, due to colon hydrotherapy, they have been able to live their lives without drugs, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, and pain pills. In a society where Eastern and Western medicine are combined to give us the best of both worlds, the acceptance of colon hydrotherapy has continued to grow with impressive results.
